Swindon is a town of two halves - Old Town, at the top of the hill, is the original Swindon. New Town, at the bottom of the hill, was created by Brunel for the Great Western Railway, and has become the main town centre. The museum is sited in the New Town between the library and the Wyvern Theatre and is easily reached by rail, bus, or car. Rail Swindon Station can be seen at the top of the map. The museum is about 10 minutes walk from the station. Station Road
Bus Many local buses stop beside the museum - ask for Regent Circus. Local buses are run by Thamesdown Transport and Stagecoach Swindon. Both accept Wiltshire Day Rover tickets. Thamesdown Transport operates the "Fast Fare" system, and do not give change. The main stops for Thamesdown Transport are in Fleming Way, just north of the museum, about five minutes walk. Beside Fleming Way is the Bus Station, where most Stagecoach and all National Express buses stop. Car There are several car parks close by, Princess St and the Wyvern multi-storey - for a map and details of charges visit the Swindon Borough Council web site. Park and Ride buses from Wroughton Copse also stop at Regent Circus. |
